Can a headache begin
in your spine?

A frequent and overlooked cause of headaches originates from spinal bones in the neck not moving correctly. When the spine is out of alignment, sensitive nerves and blood vessels can be affected. This causes the nerves to send pain signals to the surrounding neck muscles, in turn those muscles tighten up and a headache may begin. Off course, not all headaches are caused by neck problems. This is why a thorough examination is important.

Headaches are a distress signal. Your body is telling you something is out of balance. Pain relievers may temporarily turn off the alarm switch, but doesn't necessarily put out the fire. The goal of chiropractic care is to treat the underlying causes of headaches, and help you learn how to prevent headaches in the future. A chiropractor is uniquely qualified to restore the health of your spine, which may relieve the pressure that is causing your headaches. Other treatment might also be incorporated to decrease muscle tension and swelling, or increase circulation such as heat, ice packs, trigger point therapy, or massage.
