Because Accidents Happen

DrFrancine_500.jpgThe most common automobile injury is whiplash. When a  sudden accident or injury throws your head backward and  forward, the force can damage parts of your neck. Whiplash  is incurred when the neck is forced to exceed its normal  range of motion and muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints  stretch beyond their limits.

Symptoms from a whiplash injury might not appear immediately;  it can take from 12 to 36 hours after the accident before any  symptoms appear. Some symptoms can take years to develop.  Symptoms of whiplash can include restricted range of motion,  neck pain, muscle stiffness, headache, dizziness, jaw problems,  trouble swallowing, loss of voice nausea, vomiting, short-term  memory loss, insomnia, blurred vision or flashing lights.

Treatments may include chiropractic adjustments of your spine,  physiotherapies such as ultrasound, therapeutic massage, ice,  heat, and electric muscle stimulation. Exercises, a cervical collar,  and/or a cervical pillow might also be recommended. Your  primary care physician might also prescribe a pain medication  and/or muscle relaxant.  It is very important to seek care immediately after an accident.

First and foremost, you have to make sure you are not seriously  injured. Also, some minor injuries can become chronic if not  taken care of properly.
